There’s one thing we can all agree on, that Santa Claus is the best because he brings us presents every year. Whether you're naughty or nice, you're sure to get a great surprise on Christmas. But how did Santa become so famous, and where did he start his journey of delivering everyone their presents? Let’s find out!
The legend of Santa Claus can be traced way back to hundreds of years to a monk named St. Nicholas. Although it could be wrong, it is said that he was born somewhere around 280 A.D. in Patara, close to Myra in modern-day Turkey. Being very admired by everyone that met him. St. Nicholas became the subject of many legends. Even so, “It is said that he gave away all of his inherited wealth and traveled the countryside helping the poor and sick. One of the best-known St. Nicholas stories is the time he saved three poor sisters from being sold into slavery or prostitution by their father by providing them with a dowry so that they could be married” (history.com). Over the years, St. Nicholas became very popular, and he even became known as the “protector of children and sailors” (history.com). They also say that St. Nicholas’s feast day is celebrated on his death day which was December 6.
Now in present time, we celebrate Christmas along with Santa on December 25 of every year, which they say is the birth of Jesus. We celebrate Christmas early in the morning and we get to open lots and lots of presents and hangout with family, and we get to end the day with a really delicious Christmas dinner.
As you can see, Santa has been around for many, many years, bringing joy to every kid in every country. Santa will continue to be the best present giver till the end of time. Just remember to behave, because you don’t want to end up on the naughty list!
