My name is Tricia Samora and I will be teaching our Internship Course. I am the Enginering and Computer Science Teacher in the Academy of Engineering Design. Welcome to the 2021-22 school year! I’m very excited to get back to the classroom and start the year with my students in person!
I grew up just north of San Francisco and my family would routinely travel to San Diego to visit my grandparents and cousins during the summers and for holidays. I loved bodysurfing in PB, spending the day at Belmont Park, biking to La Jolla and coming home sandy and sunburned after a day of fun. I am so lucky to live and work in my vacation spot, our beautiful San Diego.
This is my 7th year teaching and my 3rd year at Clairemont High School. I love the Academy of Engineering Design, and our beautiful high tech classroom and lab and our interesting projects. Last year, our COVID year, was very stressful and I coped by pulling weeds, spreading mulch and planting wildflowers to create a butterfly garden, piggybacking on an Engineering Design and Development student project to help the Monarch Butterfly. It's a little hot and weedy right now but will be stunning when the rains come this fall and winter!
I started my career with a scholarship to the Naval Academy where I studied Ocean Engineering. I served 20 years in the Navy as a Civil Engineering Corps Officer managing facilities, construction contracts and environmental programs for the Navy and Marine Corps. When I retired, I worked as a City Engineer and later a consulting engineer but I was looking for something more impactful. When the last of my own children went off to college, I decided to become a high school engineering and computer science teacher, in part, because I was not yet done mentoring young people. I wanted to share with many teens the knowledge and opportunities available in technical fields. It is our future!
I look forward to meeting you, getting to know you and supporting you to find and pursue a successful internship. Please keep my contact info in case you have questions, would like support, or should need to communicate with me.
