Mr. Senteno will be your young adults’ teacher this academic school year. He has been teaching for 22+ years but did not follow the usual path for a teacher. Starting at the elementary level working with the younglings in the lower grades (2nd & 3rd), he then moved up to the middle and upper classes (4th, 5th, & 6th) in Bilingual Education. Then at the suggestion of some peers, he joined them, moving to Bell Junior High. Eventually, the site turned into a middle school, and once again, they chose to move on to the secondary level. Needing his single subject credential Mr. Senteno took and passed the CSET (California Educator Credentialing Examination) for English Language Arts, later finding out it is the most difficult of all the state exams given.
Mr. Senteno has several degrees along with several credentials and certificates that are in different areas of study. His favorite is in journalism, which he uses in most if not all of his teaching as it covers approximately 85-90% of many of the state standards combined.
Mr. Senteno is a graduate of the School of Education, San Diego State University (Go Aztecs!) and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication, Arizona State University (Go Sun Devils!).
Before becoming a teacher, Mr. Senteno was an NCO in the US Marine Corps. He has been a coach in wrestling (high school) and football (secondary and college), and an Athletic Director. He will soon be a mentor teacher for UCSD, assisting and guiding those just beginning careers.
Mr. Senteno is married to Maria Cristina. His son Alex is currently in the US Marine Corps, and his daughter, Samantha, attended Mira Mesa High and has just started college to become a teacher.
He looks forward to having a fantastical school year. In case you have questions or need to communicate with Mr. Senteno, please keep his contact information (gsenteno@sandi.net)
