Tips for Success
My name is Jeremy Morgan and I will be your teacher for US History in the Engineering Academy. Welcome to the 2021-22 school year! I’m very excited to get back to the classroom and meet all of my students in person!
I am originally from Athens, Ohio. I grew up in a small town, and left for the Navy right after high school. I served for eight years in the Navy Seabees. While serving I was lucky enough to see a variety of countries and gain a lot of life experiences. After the Navy, my wife and I moved to Los Angeles and I went to school at Santa Monica Community College (SMCC). Two years later we moved to the bay area where I earned my bachelor's degree from San Francisco State. My major was political science. I also hold an engineering teaching credential as well. After graduating, we moved back to San Diego. I then went to San Diego State for my single subject social science teachers credential. Other jobs I had prior to teaching were Starbucks, the American Legion, and the Veteran Resource Center at SMCC.
I got into teaching because I always loved teaching and training others. Friends and family would often suggest that I look into teaching. I received my teaching credential in 2018 from SDSU. That year at SDSU I was lucky enough to student teach at Clairemont High School. I thoroughly enjoy talking with students every day. I sometimes hear people talk about not loving their jobs, but once I stand in front of my class, my excitement and love for teaching always comes out. I teach both history and engineering classes at Clairemont. History has always been a big part of my life. I love to talk, especially about history with my students. I believe it is very important to study the past and build off of it. There are always so many ways to relate the past to current events. Engineering is so important to our everyday lives. It is also beneficial for students who are interested in the field of engineering to get some early exposure as it is such a growing career field. I am currently not involved in any extracurricular activities at CHS, but I’m excited for future opportunities that may come up.
One of my most important goals for the classroom is for every student to feel safe and involved. I pride myself on building relationships in the classroom, and I’m excited to meet all of my new students this year in person. A goal I have for my students is that everyone successfully completes my courses. I want everyone to participate in daily class discussions and Google Classroom work. I am always inspired by students who show up eager and ready to learn.
Outside of the classroom I spend a lot of time with my wife. We go for walks and jogs around our neighborhood. I can always be found watching almost any sport on tv. I love sports and I will talk about sports all day. I cheer on a few teams from all over the country.
I look forward to meeting you all this school year. It is going to be an amazing experience to have all students back in the classroom. Please keep my contact info in case you have questions, would like support, or should need to communicate with me: jmorgan1@sandi.net.
