Jakki Elzien

My name is Ms. Jakki Elzien and I will be your teacher for online credit recovery.

Welcome to the 2021-22 school year! I’m very excited to get back to the classroom and meet my students in person!

Here is a little about myself:

I was born in Minnesota but have lived in many states as well as Canada before settling in San Diego.

I went to college in Canada and when I moved to San Diego, many of my classes were not accepted here so I had to start my college education almost completely over. I attended Mesa College (great Community College) and then transferred to SDSU where I earned my degree in Speech Pathology.

After graduating, I took a year off to figure out what I really wanted to do. I decided to become a special education teacher and went on to get my multiple subject and special education credential from SDSU. Later in my teaching career, I earned my master’s degree from National University.

I have always loved learning and teaching others. I played school when I was a young child but never thought about becoming a teacher until I met a young man who was a friend of my daughter’s in middle school. He was struggling academically and emotionally and that touched my heart. I knew then, I was meant to be a teacher.

I have been a teacher at CHS since 2001. Prior to that, I taught at a middle school for five years.

I have worked as a teacher in the Opportunity Success Program for six years. This program is designed to help students recover class credits and graduate on time.858-273-0208 I love working in this program as it is so exciting to help students reach their graduation goals.

I have a beautiful daughter who is also a teacher and two amazing and silly grandchildren who keep me busy.

I love to travel and hike. I have made it to the base camp of Mt. Everest in Nepal, Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Machu Picchu in Peru, and did a safari on a camel in the Sahara desert in Morocco (too hot!).
