My name is Lori Schmersal. I was born and raised in San Diego. I have a daughter, Cierra, who was also a graduate of Clairemont High School. My love for sports began at the age of seven with the sport of soccer but my love for all sports and outdoors has always been a part of my family. My interests include traveling, surfing and body boarding, camping, kayaking, hiking, well almost everything outdoors, learning new sports and activities, and playing music.
In high school I played soccer, volleyball, and softball and continued with soccer at the collegiate level. After high school I joined CDF, now known as Cal Fire, where I traveled the United States fighting fires. I started coaching youth soccer in 1987 then went to college focusing on Sports medicine and teaching Physical Education. I earned a BS degree in Physical Education with an emphasis on teaching and athletic training. I was an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Claremont McKenna College while I finished my teaching credential from Cal Poly, Pomona University and then began my teaching career. I later earned my Masters in Education from University of Phoenix, and Adapted Physical Education Credential from Azusa Pacific University.
I have taught in Pomona Ca, Montclair Ca, Temecula, and in the Virgin Islands teaching all levels K-12th. I came to Clairemont High School in 2005 and started coaching Softball, soccer, and badminton. In the years to follow I was asked to be the Assistant Volleyball Coach and became the Varsity Softball coach in 2011.
I truly enjoy being active. It is my goal to help my students learn and understand the need for regular physical activity to remain healthy, to promote positive attitudes and behaviors that reduce health risks, and to apply the knowledge in becoming lifelong learners.
