My name is Paula Riley, and I will be your teacher for 10th Grade English, Academy of Engineering, and AP Literature. Welcome to the 2021-22 school year! I’m very excited to get back to the classroom and meet my students in person!
I grew up in Denver, Colorado, where I spent all my time playing in the snow, cheering for the Broncos, and competing in gymnastics and dance. I attended both SDSU and USD, where I studied English Language Arts, Biology, and History. Before entering the wonderful world of teaching, I worked at various restaurants, a tennis club, a dance studio, and the YMCA. At the YMCA, I coached gymnastics, where I found my passion for teaching and helping others. I began teaching in 1996, and I’ve been at good ol’ Clairemont High School since 1998. I absolutely love teaching English, because it’s all about creative and critical thinking, great literature, and interesting connections to all other subjects and to life! Here at Clairemont, I’ve been the advisor to many different clubs. I was the dance / drill team advisor for several years, and I’ve been the Academic League coach and advisor for about 16 years. I have three amazing, talented, smart daughters, Megan, Bridget, and Briana. Megan graduated from PLNU, Bridget graduated from UCSB, and Briana graduated from UC Berkeley. My hobbies include cooking, gardening, reading, playing fantasy football (I’m really good), dancing, and exercising. I love to learn and discover new things, and it’s always my hope that I help lead my students to learn and discover new things!
I look forward to many exciting adventures with literature and learning with your students! Please keep my contact info in case you have questions, would like support, or should need to communicate with me priley2@sandi.net or 619-605-2600 x3308.
