Amy Leon

My name is Amy Leon and I will be teaching 9th grade Freshman Foundations in the Fall of 2021 semester. I am part of the Academy of Information Technology, but will also be teaching one cohort of Freshman Foundations for the Academy of Business. I am beyond excited to start this new school year, and can not wait to welcome each of my students!

I am new at Clairemont High School this year and am stoked to be coming aboard to such an amazing team and phenomenal school. I am a San Diego native, and went to high school at one of our neighboring schools, Kearny High Educational Complex (School of Digital Media and Design). After high school I attended Mesa Community College for a few years where I had a few major changes before I settled in on teaching. I then transferred over to San Diego State University and graduated in 2017 with my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in English. After, I went on to Point Loma Nazarene University where I acquired my teaching credential in English, and am currently working towards my Master’s Degree in Teaching.

A little about myself, I am married to my wonderful husband, Dylan. We welcomed our first child, Grayson, into the world in the very beginning, uncertain times, of the pandemic, back in May of 2020. We have two dogs, Luna and Zeke, that we love to spend time with. My husband and I are huge baseball fans (Go Padres!). Traveling and adventure is a must in my household; I have now been to about 13 countries and am itching to visit more.

Before I took the leap of teaching high school I was a preschool teacher, where I loved working with the little ones, but felt my heart was at home when I was in a high school classroom. I have now been working at the high school level for about three years, and have felt right at home. I teach because I love my students, and getting to watch them grow. I believe every student has the ability to reach for the stars and achieve anything they set their mind to. My classroom is a home base, and every day is a clean slate to start fresh and grow together. I am a firm believer in the fact that my students teach me just as much as I teach them.
