My name is Gary Jimenez and I will be your teacher for 10th Grade English 3-4 Info Tech Academy and/or Yearbook Journalism. Welcome to the 2021-22 school year! I’m very excited to get back to the classroom and meet my students in person!
First a little about my qualifications to teach this course. I've taught I-B English (7 years) and AP Lang and Lit (6 years) and I've taught over 50 Graduate Level Courses at National University in their Teacher Education Program. Prior to teaching, I worked as a professional journalist in New York and Los Angeles for several years. My first teaching assignment, however, was as a Graduate Teaching Fellow at the University of Oregon School of Journalism in beautiful Track Town USA, Eugene, Oregon. I also taught at an elite private international high school in Santiago, Chile for four years.
I grew up in Oregon City, Oregon, home of the Pioneers, that's the high school mascot. I was also a Pioneer at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. (Chieftain alumnus Gaby Kuglen now attends there) As you may know, I also coach boys and girls tennis here at CHS. Go in the gym and you'll see many of our League Championship Banners. I have also produced over 20 yearbooks, mostly here at CHS. Newspaper Journalism has also been one of my favorite courses to teach.
I like teaching writing. So, we'll do a lot of it here in this class. My goal is to prepare you for successful AP exams in your junior and senior year and college level writing. Your success is my success. I'll talk more about the course in the syllabus later. In my spare time I like to ride my bicycle, run, play tennis and garden. I also travel frequently to Mexico. I have two sons ages 27 and 35! So that's a bit about me. Stay tuned. More to come!
I look forward to working together and getting to know each other this school year. Please keep my contact info in case you have questions, would like support, or should need to communicate with me: gjimenez@sandi.net.

Adi Mullen
My name is Adi Mullen and I will be your student teacher this semester! I am so excited to get to know you all.
I am currently working on my English credential at SDSU, in order to have my own classroom and be able to teach students full time! I got my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, where I supplemented my theatre training with classes like theatre education and race in theatre and cinema. I am a firm believer in the power that the arts have to create lasting change, as opposed to being “fluff” simply for entertainment. In terms of English, I was a voracious reader growing up, but as I got older didn’t read as much. I have a somewhat short attention span, so reading for long periods of time can be hard for me, but once I get into a book, I am hooked. My personal favorite book is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho (read it if you get the chance). I love writing as well, especially argumentative essays and speeches.
I am a San Diego native (technically I was born in LA, but my parents moved here when I was 1 month old, so I think that counts), and I came right back as soon as I could. I graduated school in 2020, so I did spend a few months participating in online learning, so I understand what you have been through over the past 18 months, and I’m so excited that we can be here in person.
When not in school or student teaching, I teach dance at a small studio here in San Diego, and I am in a professional tap dance company. I love going to the park or beach with my boyfriend and pup (her name is Empanada and yes I will show you a picture if you ask), and traveling, which I am very excited to get back to as the world slowly opens back up. I also love doing the New York Times puzzles and cooking new recipes.
