My name is Simone Zavala Nolet, and I will be your student’s teacher for our AHMS Freshman Foundations class, or AVID 12 course. Welcome to the 2021-22 school year. I’m very excited to be teaching in person with your student. This will be my 20th year teaching at Clairemont High School, and my 21st year teaching for SDUSD. I’m passionate about education, and consider myself a lifelong learner. I want to inspire my students to be the best scholars and human beings that they can be; I hope to guide and support them through their journey.
I’m a Latinx woman of Mexican descent. My pronouns are she/her/hers. I was born in Northern California, then lived in Eugene, Oregon; Cancun, Mexico; and Wellington, Florida because my father worked for United Airlines. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Theatre from UCSD, and my Teaching Credential then my Masters in Educational Leadership with an Administrative Credential from SDSU. Before becoming a teacher, I worked at a real estate office in high school, and at the Shiley Sports and Health Center of Scripps Clinic during college. I was inspired to become a teacher because of my mom who retired from teaching last year who won many accolades for her work, and also because of the positive interaction I had with my sixth grade history teacher, Mr. Cohen, who sparked my love of history, and let me teach his class once a week when I was a senior in high school. Besides teaching, I advise both the AVID and GTSA clubs. I am also the AVID Coordinator, the History/Social Studies department chair, and I have a seat on our School Site Council.
I live in Point Loma with my husband Frank, my 18 year-old son Carlos who is attending San Diego Mesa College while working part-time, and my seven year-old daughter Eva who is in second grade at Sunset View Elementary. Our terrier/Chihuahua mix named Sweetie rounds out our family. My passions include dancing, attending music festivals, reading, watching films, attending plays, musical theater, activism; and spending quality time with my family and friends.
I look forward to connecting, engaging, and educating your student this school year. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. My email address is snolet@sandi.net and my Google Voice/Text number is (858) 751-4775. Thank you for your support.
