Joseph Wilson

My name is Joseph C. Wilson and I will be your teacher for students with an IEP. Welcome to the 2021-22 school year! I’m very excited to get back to the classroom and meet my students in person!

Some information about me:

I grew up in Macon, Georgia and taught special education in the Atlanta area for 30 years. I moved to San Diego 10 years ago and began teaching in the district in 2012.

I hold three college degrees: My undergraduate degree is in journalism and history from the University of Georgia, a school founded in 1787 and a major college NCAA football power. I hold a master’s degree in intellectual difficulties and behavioral disorders from North Georgia College and State University. I have also completed an educational specialist degree in learning disabilities and school administration from University of West Georgia.

I worked as a newspaper reporter for three years before working on my master’s degree in special education.

I came to Clairemont High School four years ago after teaching at other schools in the district.

I have enjoyed teaching and working with students with special needs. Clairemont has an excellent reputation for involving my students in the life of the school. Many regular students are involved in Circle of Friends during lunch and Unity Athletic Games at least three times a year.

My goal in the classroom is to get students engaged in learning and ready for the TRACE program when they reach 18 years of age.

Another unique feature of Clairemont High School specialized academic instruction is the use of peer helpers from general education that are assigned to my classroom.

Inspired by Rick Steves, I enjoy independent travel to countries around the world. I have made several trips to Europe, Latin America, and Asia. I really enjoy teaching students about current events and reading current events articles aimed at their level.
