Welcome back, Colts. As always, we are starting off the year with lots of new teachers and staff at EJHS. This year, we have a new school counselor, Mr.Baker! Unfortunately, Mrs. Straw (our previous school counselor) won't be a counselor during our 2026-2027 school year. However, we are so happy that Mr.Baker decided to join the EJHS staff.

Before Mr. Baker worked in our RBB community, he worked as a counselor at Batchelor for 6 years, so this year will be his 7th year counseling. But you might be wondering why he moved to EJHS. Well, Mr. Baker says, “I came to Edgewood to be part of the wonderful RBB community that I grew up in. My two kids also go to Edgewood schools, and I am glad I am now in the same corporation as them.” He has been loving the staff here lately, saying that his favorite part would be the students plus the staff, and that he has really enjoyed getting to know the Colts family.
Mr.Baker says, “I knew in high school that I wanted to be a counselor for kids. After receiving my Bachelor's degree in Psychology, I was a counselor for juveniles on probation. I really enjoy working with those kids on their school goals, which led me to get my Master's Degree in Education in School Counseling.” With that being said, he plans to help students with the academic applications, struggles, planning, and personal triumphs of school. EJHS students can know that his door is always open, because here everyone deserves to feel heard and/or seen. It's all about making sure that everyone is prepared and ready for the next chapter of their lives.
Other than working in our RBB community, Mr. Baker has a family of four: his wife and two kids! They enjoy going on hikes, swimming, camping, and fishing. Mr.Baker says, “We also enjoy watching movies and playing board games at our house.” He spends lots of time with family and friends, as well as playing golf and watching sporting events. Speaking of sporting events, He plans to attend our RBB sporting events, such as football, cross country, Basketball, track and field, plus even more.
