Softball Conditioning call out
Our school has amazing players in all sports, but not much can compare to our amazing softball girls who put in so much work and keep growing. Now that fall has started, the softball coaches have announced their yearly fall conditionings. Everyone interested in joining the softball team for the spring is invited to come practice. There will be 7th, 8th, and 6th graders that may be new or are returning players, allowed to show Mrs. Ayer and Miss. Schooling their abilities.
What's conditionings?
Every Tuesday (unless announcements say it's moved) until fall break, after school from 2:30-3:45 you can join everyone in Mrs. Ayers room (208). Make sure to bring your equipment including a glove, a bat, and a helmet. Bringing good tennis shoes along with your cleats would be advised in case of weather causing indoor conditioning. You are allowed to drop your stuff in Mrs. Ayers room in the morning. The conditions are not the real thing they are just to start practicing and give the coaches a good idea about the future team. They are not mandatory and you don’t have to join the team if you just want to practice your softball skills.
About the coaches
The coaches are just Mrs. Ayer and Miss. Schooling. Mrs. Ayer has been teaching for 19 years and coached the softball teams for 5 of those years. Mrs. Schooling has been teaching for less with only 3 years of teaching and coaching for all of those 3 years.Mrs. Ayer teaches 6th grade Ela and is the only journalism teacher as of this year. Miss. Schooling on the other hand, teaches Indiana studies and social studies to 7th graders. Both are amazing teachers and the softball players love to learn from them. Khloee Wykoff, a former player says, “I love having both of them as my coaches because they are skilled and know what they are doing. I started school ball last year and have seen lots of improvement.”
What they are looking for
The coaches are thrilled for another year to be starting soon and would love to see the new players. Both the coaches say they are looking for about 14-16 girls to try out this year but all are welcome at the conditionings. With the numbers they have had so far they are very prepared for a good year but Mrs. Schooling said, “I think it is too soon to tell. Some girls change their minds.” Which is true lots of them can change their mind on what they think. We all know that we have a very strong team from the past years so they are looking for your very best. If you aren’t sure if this is the team you want to be on or what you want to do then the fall conditioning would be a good idea to get used to the team, coaches, and type of plays.
Tryouts
The official tryouts will be this spring, come prepared and ready for any news. We all know that they can’t accept everybody and that doesn’t mean that you aren’t a good player. The players that do get accepted, they will play until about mid May. They will practice and play lots of games, some home games and some away games. If you want this, the fall conditionings are one of the best ways to get you a spot on the team!
