This year is the 3rd annual year of Dodge and Donate, and donating goes from August 19th-August 30th. Dodge and Donate is where students in their homerooms go up against each other to play dodgeball and raise money, hence the ‘Donate’ part. The different homerooms compete against each other until the winning homeroom goes up against the teachers. If you want to play in the dodgeball tournament, the fee is $5 per person. In the donate portion, you're able to enter your name in a raffle to get different prizes.

The items that you could get from donating are things such as Edgewood crocs, Edgewood slides, Edgewood tumblers, and Edgewood hoodies. You can also enter into a raffle and get prizes. Their are so many fun and cool prizes you could get from the raffle, such as, gift cards for Amazon and Starbucks (the typically most favored raffle items), EJHS Concession coupons, a BBQ food truck coupon for when it comes to the school, air pods, and things to wear, such as, EJHS flannel pants, sweatshirts, T-shirts, stickers, water bottles, etc. There are even pit viper sunglasses! Avery Arnold, a sixth grade student at EJHS, who raised $150, says, “I like how it's a challenge and you have to dodge dodgeballs.” Avery is also excited for the EJHS hoodie. Julia Schliesser says that the raffle prize she's most excited for in the raffle is the amazon gift card.
Last year’s winners from the dodgeball tournament include Mr. Straw’s sixth-grade homeroom, Mrs. Walters's seventh-grade homeroom, Mrs. Hillenburg’s eighth-grade homeroom, and the grand champions were the teachers. The winners of donations last year were Mrs. Koontz's sixth-grade homeroom, Mrs. McGlothlin’s seventh-grade homeroom, Mrs. Karaffa’s eighth-grade homeroom, and Mrs. Jones's mixed-grade homeroom. After all the students competed against each other they would then go against the teachers. There would be trophies for different grades for the winners of the dodgeball tournament and a pizza party for the winners of each grade level in the donating portion. Ava Williamson, a sixth-grade student at EJHS, says, "The hoodie looks comfy and I like how it looks.” Ava also donated money this year. Bella Gallagher’s thoughts on Dodgeball are, “I like the dodging part of dodgeball because I’m not very good at throwing.”

Dodge and Donate actually started as a way for students not to sell things multiple times throughout the year. Before this, the school would do 2 or 3 fundraisers where students sold things through companies (like flowers, or wrapping paper, etc) and the company kept a portion of the profits. The school had a group of students (now Juniors) who wanted to come up with a better way for the school to make money and something that the students would enjoy. So then the bright idea of a dodgeball tournament came up. Where you can donate money for prizes as well as having fun in the gym before classes start.
In conclusion, the Dodge and Donate fundraiser was overall a huge success! The school raised a total of $15,300 but there are still online donations coming, all the funds that the school receives are going back to the students at EJHS for field trips, school supplies, fundraiser prizes/incentives 6th grade Tour of Opportunity Field Trip, iReady and iLearn snacks and treats, incoming 6th grade and new student t-shirts, 8th-grade bowling trip, classroom prizes and treats, an upcoming Field Day for students, and more. The dodgeball tournament also was a joy for lots of kids and teachers, to participate in.
