Competitive kayaking is a sport featured in the Olympics all over the world, but it’s way more than that. It is a thing many people enjoy doing during hot summers or just on long, warm weekends. Many people love to kayak, but some people like it so much that they do it professionally. They end up doing many competitions a year. Jessica Fox, for example, went to the Olympics this past year for the sport of kayaking. There are many rules for competitive kayaking, such as the team with the smallest score wins. And more we will expand on later. There are many classes you can take to learn kayaking, but you probably won’t need that many, as it is an easy thing to learn.
Jessica Fox is a world-famous competitive kayaker. She was born in Marseille, France, on June 11th, 1994. She is an amazing kayaker who went to the Olympics. She ended up winning the overall World Cup title in the Kayak Single Slalom. She has been practicing for that moment for years; she found her love for kayaking because of her father, Richard Fox, who was a five-time winning champion. She started kayaking in 2006, and once said, “I look at each competition as a new challenge, a new exciting journey,” and not once has she looked back yet.
To do competitive kayaking, you must understand the “odd” rules. As we’ve stated, one of them is that the team with the smaller score wins. Another rule, according to Mijan Cortina it says, “Team members cannot be changed once the competition has started,” explaining the strict rule of not changing team members in competitions. If your boat arrives late, you will be disqualified. Rules may vary depending on the competition you’re in, these are just the standard rules.
If you want to get into competitive kayaking or just kayaking in general, you could take many good classes, such as the Hoosier Canoe and Kayak Club. Kayak Skill Classes. This link brings you to a page that helps you know how to sign up and what to bring/wear. They offer different kinds of classes, such as one for newer people and one for more advanced people.
A good place to go kayaking is the kayak trail challenge at Summit Lake State Park. This link explains everything. They have a deal where you go out and kayak on paths, and during this, you have to take pictures of these signs, and once you finish all the paths, you are eligible to get a $5 sticker or a $15 water bottle. They explain the trails as, “Trail 1, located near the North Ramp on the lake, has five spots with a sign unique to Summit Lake and a QR code participants can scan to learn more about that feature. Trail 2, on the property’s south side, has six spots.” Both paths combined are around 6 miles.
In conclusion, competitive kayaking is an amazing thing to try. Kayaking is an amazing way to exercise and have fun out in the sun during the hot summers. It is also a good sport to try if you like being competitive in the water. Whether you try it and get into it, and become someone like Jessica Fox, or just do regular kayaking, it is a great and fun way to get outside!
