Ronald Reagan was the 40th, and commonly known as one of the best presidents in the history of the United States. He was crucial to the United State’s victory over the Soviet Union in the Cold War, greatly impacted our economy, and spoke of conservatism as a modern, future-looking ideology.

Ronald Reagan was born on Feb 6, 1911. He died on June 5, 2004. He was 69 years old when he entered office. Ronald Reagan was a very well-liked president, this is obviously shown by his utterly incredible electoral victory in 1984. [election map to the left.] He was commonly known for his charisma, great speaking skills, and his anti-communist values. At the time, the greatest issue was the cold war with the Soviet Union. One of Ronald Reagan’s most famous proposed ideas was a project named “star wars” after the 1970’s movies. This project proposed the use of lasers, and other yet-undeveloped killing weapons to destroy soviet missiles before they reach their target in the US. This idea was abandoned immediately because it is completely illogical. However, many ex-soviet officials say it was one of the causes of the collapse of the soviet union. Because it still showed that the Soviet Union could not compete with the US in a modern arms race. Although there are many more reasons the Soviet Union Collapsed.

The Soviet Union[now Russia] collapsed on December 26th, 1991. This is commonly credited partially to Ronald Reagan. Although the collapse did not occur during his presidency, he still knew they would collapse soon. He had loads of intel of the Soviet government, and they were crumbling by the minute. Reagan increased military spending, and pressured the Soviet Union. This, along with the Soviet Union’s instability due to inner turmoil, led to their collapse. Cementing the American victory in the Cold War and his legacy.
All in all, People today can reflect on the aspects of history to study our current situation in the world. You can decide if you think Reagon was a good president, or even if you thought he was actually the reason the US won. Either way, it is crucial people examine the presidency of Ronald Reagon, and the entirety of history, to provide future generations the power to continue proper diplomacy.
