Have you been walking in the hallways lately and heard about the new schedule change for next year? Well, if not, you have now. There is a new schedule happening next year, and many people have been undecided about how they feel about it. This is a big difference for the people moving to the next grade. But for the people coming to the school for the next year, it will be the same thing.
Many people think, What is the point of the schedule change anyway? When people sit in an 80-minute class, or an hour and 20 minutes, they can get bored, and they don’t like to pay attention to the subject being taught. Kent Rentschler, the principal at EJHS, said, “ With this change, we are getting 25 minutes of extra core class time a week, which I think is great. It helps with keeping the students engaged in what the teachers are talking about.” This is something that many teachers are excited to have, and they are ready to have the people in that specific class paying attention and being focused in class.
This is an excellent opportunity for people who have not been focused in class on a block schedule to have a fresh start in that class. Payton Connelley, a 7th-grade student at EJHS, said, “ It might be good for some people and bad for some people. “ This is an excellent way for the students to make up what they have missed throughout the school year. Block scheduling for some people makes more sense, but some like the classes every day more. Johnathan Siglin, the assistant principal at EJHS, said, “ It might be difficult for some people to have the same class every day, but it is more efficient that we have all seven classes a day.” There are many different ways that schedule changes can be helpful, but this is one of the most important ones.
Although seven classes per day may be challenging for the new students who are coming to Junior High. For the students who have been in the school for two years, it will be more challenging because they have been used to block scheduling, and now they will have to switch it up in the last year they will be in the school. Seven classes a day can give some students an advantage, but others anxiety about all of the work and the different classes they might have to attend.
Overall, the schedule change can be good for some students and bad for others, and many don’t know how to feel about it. This is a great way for the school and students to get a fresh new start to the school year!
