Everybody knows the horrible diseases that go by the name of influenza and that damaged our beautiful country in 1830-1835. So many people died, and we should find some ways not to have that happen. First, let’s start with some history.
Where did the flu come from? That’s the question we’re all waiting for. The flu started when humans started domesticating animals like birds and pigs. They then carried it into the U.S. in 1830. However, before it came to the U.S, it originated in Asia, then spread to Europe, and eventually to the U.S. This is how it happened. Then, it spread very badly to the rest of America, making the horrible pandemic that swept the U.S. in 1918 due to people not knowing the disease and a lack of medical knowledge and medication.
If you don’t know, some of the worst symptoms are vomiting, 103 to 104 fever, and you usually don’t eat a whole lot. You are very drowsy, and you usually get 12-15 hours of sleep, and you’re still tired! You need a lot of sleep to survive this sickness! (Just kidding.) Usually, there is a very bad cough, too. After the sickness, however, you may experience something like a red rash from your waist up or the cough continuing. This is okay, it’s just your body's allergic reaction to the flu. Doctors are also saying that days 2-3 of the flu are the worst because you usually have fatigue, vomiting, and weakness. You may even experience body aches that make you unable to stand up or move around.
So, what's the best way to deal with it? Luke Osborn says, “I just exist, and eat a cough drop, drink lots of water, play video games, and get lots of sleep, and it goes away.” The best way to deal with the flu is to stay home, drink plenty of fluids, and take medication such as Ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Soon, your stupid influenza that has been going on will go away.
Many doctors are saying that this might be one of the worst flu seasons the U.S. has ever experienced (other than the outbreak in 1918), and doctors are unsure why. Some say that it’s because of the COVID-19 virus also going around, and it’s also the worst season for the flu. It’s also a good idea to get the vaccination when you can (it's best to get it every 6 months) and get the COVID one, too, while you’re there.
So, try to stay your healthiest, and if you do get the flu, be sure to drink lots of water, sleep lots, and don’t give it to anyone else! Try to call the doctor and get in when possible, because you might have something other than the flu or something that can be solved easily. Stay healthy!
