Have you ever seen a cake so realistic you can't even tell if it's real or fake? Well that's all and more for the show called Is It Cake. Is It Cake is a tv show series on Netflix that is kind of like a game show. IMDB states, “Skilled cake artists create mouthwatering replicas of everyday objects, in a mind-bending baking contest inspired by a popular meme.” It premiered in March of 2022. The point of the show is to make realistic cakes to fool the judges. Is It Cake has 3 seasons now plus a special holiday edition. Plus Is It Cake makes a great binge watching show too.
Mikey Day getting ready to cut a cake
Is It Cake all started like every other tv show with episode one. In the first episode of Is It Cake Mikey Day who is the host of the show welcomed the first bakers or contestants into the first round of Is It Cake. Each episode always starts out the same with a game called Find that Cake. The game is basically what the judges have to do and that's find or guess the cake. The three fastest bakers that guess the cake right get to compete first. The bakers get only twenty seconds to see if they can find
the cake or cakes.
When the Find that Cake game is over and the three fastest bakers choose what they are going to make, then it's time for the bakers to bake. The bakers get about eight hours to bake and make their hyper-realistic cakes. The bakers don’t just have to get creative with the flavors that they put in their cakes, they have to get creative with how they are going to make these hyper-realistic cakes as well. Aubriana Collins, a sixth grader at EJHS states, “Probably watching them like go through the process of making the cake and like seeing how they fail but then like come back and like watching them improve over time.” Although, the bakers don’t always need as much thinking as may come to mind. The bakers get decoys to help make their cakes and fool the judges.

After the time limit is up, it's time for the bakers to meet the judges. Once the bakers meet the judges then it's time for the judges to play Real or Cake. The judges will also only get twenty seconds to see if they can find the cake and guess it right. If the judges guess the cake right the baker who made the cake could be up for elimination. But if the judges guess the cake wrong then the baker who made that cake could be up for the win. Some of these cakes even leave people in shock. Eliza Baxter, a sixth grader at EJHS states, “Whoever made those cakes gotta be like super talented.” There is also always a new set of judges to guess which one of the options is cake. Although, if there is more than one winner or losers the judges have to try the cakes to see who is the winner and who is going home for that round.
Once the judges have made the hard decision on who is the winner and who is the loser, it's time for another game called Cake or Cash. Cake or Cash is when the winning baker gets to play for more money than what they have already earned. There are two cakes this time and they have to figure out which one is cake to win more money. If they get it right they add the money to the winners total money earnings. If they get it wrong they just don't get the cash from Cake or Cash but they still get to keep the cash they earned from winning the baking part.
