What is the Scholar Success Committee?
Purpose
The Scholar Success Committee (SSC) helps Scholars meet the requirements of BUILD EXITO and partners with Scholars when life circumstances present challenges to fulfilling program requirements.
The SSC’s primary aim is to ensure Scholars are successful in their academic and career pursuits, and that they receive the full training and benefits of the program.
Scholar requirements and expectations were developed due to the grant requirements set by NIH for our BUILD EXITO grant.
What Does the SSC Do?
Present program requirements to Scholars
Make recommendations/decisions on Scholars’ program standing when program requirements are not met.
Help Scholars strategize about meeting program requirements while considering individual circumstances and aiming to lower stress levels.
Make recommendations/decisions on Scholar requests/petitions regarding program requirements
What the SSC Does NOT Do
Create program requirements
Track completion of program requirements.
The SSC only compiles data
Track Scholars’ temporary and permanent withdrawals
Make final decisions on Scholars’ dismissal and suspended trainee appointments.
The SSC will make recommendations, which are approved or rejected by the ELT
Delay or discontinue financial support
Administer any time sheets or reporting forms
Program Requirements
Purpose
Program Requirements make up the foundational pieces of Scholars’ research training and academic success
The NIH requires EXITO to collect and report data
The program requirements help Scholars prepare for the rigors of employment, research, graduate school, and more
Paperwork and reporting are essential to a researcher’s life. Without data, it didn’t happen
Financial support is provided for full participation in the program. This participation includes meeting the program requirements we will discuss.
What are the Program Requirements?
Below are summaries of program requirements for summer and the academic year. However, each program requirement is also listed on the applicable pages of this site (e.g., advising and enrollment requirements are on the Advising page).
Scholar Agreements
What are Scholar Agreements?
The Scholar Agreement outlines the responsibilities of being a BUILD EXITO Scholar.
Program requirements are tied to the program’s ability to provide financial support to Scholars, including payments for Induction/Immersion, stipends, and remission.
Scholars should notify the Scholar Success Committee via email at exitossc@pdx.edu of any circumstances that will prevent complete fulfillment of the responsibilities of a BUILD EXITO Scholar.
There are two agreements for BUILD
This Scholar agreement is between you and BUILD
The RLC Agreement is between you and your RLC (completed in Induction or when re-matched)
