Carlos is the son of South American Immigrants, a First Generation American and College Graduate, and has been working with college students for over 15 years. He holds an MS in Educational Leadership & Policy, with a research focus on supporting First Generation College Students through servant leadership philosophy and transition theory. As BUILD EXITO’s Academic Advisor and Co-Chair of the Scholar Success Committee, he supports scholars in navigating the nuances of the university environment. Whether you are degree planning, applying for financial aid or graduate school, registering for classes or writing a resume - Carlos is here to support you through the process.
Academic Requirements
Enrollment
Trainees must be registered at PSU
Maintain full-time enrollment (12+ credits) during academic year (Fall/Winter/Spring)
Notes
Summer 2022: There is NO registration requirement for Summer 2022
If this program requirement is missed you may be placed on a Scholar Success Plan with the standing of Probation AND financial support can't be processed
GPA
Achieve term GPA of 2.5+
Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5+
Notes
If you are taking summer courses you are required to Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5+
A GPA of 3.0+ is a primary component of a competitive graduate school application
If this program requirement is missed you may be placed on a Scholar Success Plan with the standing of Warning
Major
Declare and maintain an EXITO-related major in social, behavioral, or biomedical, health fields. List of majors here.
Notes
A scholar would automatically be dismissed if they are no longer pursuing a Biomedical Major
Scholars without a biomedical major are dismissed by the program, unless a petition to the NIH is submitted and approved
If you are concerned that your major is not considered “biomedical” or are considering a major switch please meet with the EXITO Advisor
Balance & Priorities
Balance off-campus and on-campus employment duties in order to prioritize my academics and my research
Carry reasonable course loads that prioritize my academics and my research

Mandatory Reporting
EXITO faculty and staff adhere to Faculty & Staff Reporting Obligations, including Mandatory Reporting, Campus Safety Policies and Procedures and reporting discrimination or harassment, including sexual harassment and sexual misconduct/assault.
If a Scholar may be dangerous or intends to harm themselves or others, staff are required to share information immediately with appropriate campus, state and/or local authorities. Staff must also contact the EXITO Executive Leadership Team immediately so that any additional steps can be taken to ensure the safety of all PSU students.

PSU C.A.R.E. Team (Coordination Assessment Response Education)
The C.A.R.E. Team, hosted by the Dean of Student Life, is a resource available to any PSU student experiencing challenging circumstances.
The C.A.R.E. Team can assist with bureaucratic red tape
EXITO faculty and staff will make a C.A.R.E. team report in an circumstances where the team may be helpful
