In the absence of the building administrator(s), a designated Martin Luther King staff member(s) (if present) will be in charge in the event of an emergency. The staff member/teacher will act as building administrator only in severe cases which require immediate attention (i.e., security/weather threats, out of control student who cannot be controlled by the classroom teacher or team, child abuse reporting, or emergency medical care or transportation for personnel or students). Situations involving coverage of classes or unforeseen changes in the schedule will be directed by the counselor/teacher in charge. All routine administrative matters (i.e., discipline referrals not covered above, communications, etc.) will be resolved upon the return of the building administrator. The principal’s secretary should be informed of all incidents requiring Teacher In Charge action(s) and will be able to contact the principal to advise of all situations. This role is a non-compensated additional duty.
