The Oklahoma City School System is committed to the concept that every individual is entitled to full dignity, respect, and value; and that this concept must be translated into reality by deliberate efforts of the employees of this system. Such efforts will emphasize:
The creation of a learning and working environment which insures the full development of human potential and respect for the worth and dignity of each individual;
The recognition and understanding of the dehumanizing effects of bias, prejudicial attitudes, and discriminatory behavior;
The promotion and protection of human and civil rights of all persons by striving toward the prevention and elimination of hostility, apathy, distrust, inequality, inequity, sex discrimination and racism;
The development of positive feelings of self-worth, self-understanding and security;
The understanding of and appreciation for the contributions and life styles of the various cultural, racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic groups in our global society;
The respect for the protection of diversity and dissenting points of view;
The establishment of a school where democratic processes are supported, developed, and utilized;
The establishment of methods for sharing feelings, concerns, and goals that will promote common understanding and mutual respect between and among individuals and groups.
