Research reflects that students who complete meaningful homework on a regular basis will make greater academic gains. The Oklahoma City Public School Board’s Regulations require that the classroom and special education teacher assign and monitor homework on a daily basis. Teachers shall implement a program of regular homework relating to the major areas of curriculum and communicate the importance of homework to parents and students throughout the year. Assignments should be appropriate for the developmental level of a student and be used for preparation, enrichment, reinforcement, and extension of the school experience. Homework should be focused on instructional items already reviewed in class and used as a practice of such items. No grades shall be taken from homework.
Cooperation between home and school is essential to effective home study. Parents/Guardians should work to ensure conditions conducive for study and should monitor the student’s time spent on homework. Students are expected to complete and turn in assignments in a satisfactory and timely manner. Graded homework should count no more than 10% toward the student’s quarter grade in each subject.
Homework time requirements must be within these district regulations:
Kindergarten – 10-20 minutes/day
1st - 2nd Grade – 20-30 minutes/day
3rd - 4th Grade – 30-40 minutes/day
