NEEDS UPDATING for 25-26
The Oklahoma City Board of Education believes that the personnel performance appraisal is a mutual endeavor among all staff members and the board to improve the quality of the overall educational program. The improvement of the district's educational efforts must be a joint responsibility of the school district and the individual educator.
A recent report by the Education Sector and the FDR Group “surveyed 1,010 K–12 public school teachers about their views on the teaching profession, teachers unions, and a host of reforms aimed at improving teacher quality.” Here is one finding that I think merits serious thought: Only 26 percent of teachers say that their most recent formal evaluation was useful and effective in helping them to improve their teaching. I believe that the evaluative process should be one that facilitates improvement in instruction. When I come to observe, I do not want to see a “dog-and-pony show.” I would prefer a lesson that is new and stretches the teacher and allows for risk-taking. My goal is to support you in the risk-taking endeavor and to work to help you improve as an instructor. Observation/Evaluation is not meant to produce an “I got you” moment or for me to catch you making mistakes; it is meant to be a process where we work together to produce the best learning environment and instruction for our students. We will discuss this philosophy in more detail during our pre-observation conferences.
Teacher evaluations will be administered per teachers’ contract ("Negotiated Agreement").
Notifications will be made as required by e-mail or iObservation.
Probationary teachers (teachers who have taught less than 3 full academic years) will be evaluated per the Negotiated Agreement.
Career teachers will be evaluated per the Negotiated Agreement.
The term “evaluation” consists of multiple visits (observations) to the classroom. Please do not confuse observations with evaluations.
Visits to the classroom will be as unobtrusive as possible. Continue to teach as you normally would, feedback will be provided within 48 hours of the visit.
Teacher evaluation for the 2021-2022 school year will be based 100% on the qualitative aspects of the Marzano Teacher Evaluation Model.
