The student school day begins at 8:00 am and ends at 3:10 pm unless otherwise scheduled. During their time on the school grounds, students should have adult supervision at all times. When students begin arriving in the classroom (8:00 am), they should be greeted by their teacher and engaged in a productive routine supervised by the teacher. Students are to conduct their morning routines and have clear expectations and meaningful things to work on. They should be seated and prepared for announcements soon after they enter the classroom. All personnel and students should stand for the pledges & creed recitation; a moment of silence and morning announcements will also occur at this time, but it is not required for students/staff to stand for these. Students have the right not to participate in the pledge, but non-participating students MUST remain silent and respect the rights of others during the pledge. Names of absent students will be recorded on INFINITE CAMPUS by 9:00 am daily. Additionally the lunch count must be completed by 9:00 a.m.
DUTIES
Students should be escorted to/from specials. Teachers who are assigned duty stations are responsible for the students in that designated area. If you are unable to be at an assigned duty station, it is your responsibility to ensure your post is covered by a substitute and checked by another teacher. Teachers/Staff members assigned duty stations (morning gym, bus, recess, lunch, etc.) should be PROMPT in reporting to their assignment.
Lunch duty includes supervision of students until all have finished eating and the teacher has returned. Playground duty includes being on the grounds and being “active” (see Playground above).
HALLWAYS
In the interest of maintaining an atmosphere which is conducive to concentrating and learning, movement in the hallways should be quiet and orderly. Students should walk in single-file lines next to their right hand walls just as if they were driving. All personnel are expected to monitor student behavior in the halls and provide training necessary to teach our students what is expected and how to move in large groups in an acceptable manner.
No student is to be removed from the classroom into the hallway for discipline purposes or for any other reason due to safety and supervision concerns. Refer to Common Area School Rules to find acceptable practices.
DISMISSAL
During daily dismissal, all teachers will be on duty. Teachers are to follow daily dismissal policy detailed below.
CLASSROOM DISTRACTIONS
When providing classroom instruction, classroom lights should remain on at all times. Exceptions would consist of watching an educational video or activity, PK nap time. In addition, teachers are not allowed to wear earbuds while instructing or supervising students. Staff members must be alert to any potential issues and free of distractions. Cell phones should only be used for educational activities or emergencies. Staff members observed on cell phones that appear personal in nature will be asked to meet with an administrator.
