Our custodial staff is an essential part of our school and should be treated as such. Their jobs are innumerable and when we can it is very helpful for us to try to lighten their load. This includes tasks such as (but not limited to) ensuring paste/glue is removed from work surfaces, defacing of school property is discouraged and/or quickly curtailed, and shortly before daily dismissal: all paper & crayons are picked up from the floor and trash is secured in the can. All chairs should be placed on top of desks or tables at the end of each day to facilitate sweeping/vacuuming. Please also make sure that window shades are uniformly lowered and all windows are locked. All classroom doors should be locked at the end of each day. Window sills should be kept free of any objects and supplies/books etc. should be kept on shelves and not on the floor.
Should anyone need the custodian or building mechanic, please contact the custodian or the office secretary for assistance—please do not send children on messages for this purpose. If requests for help are not completed in a timely manner, please request assistance from the principal. In an emergency, please use the intercom.
It is the responsibility of everyone in the building to keep our school in the best possible condition. To achieve this goal, each staff member should:
Inform students that this is their building. If they see paper, pencils, or garbage on the floors, they should help clean it up.
At the end of the school day, all students should clean the area around their desks.
At the beginning of the school day, please report area(s) not cleaned properly.
At the end of the school day, please place chairs on top of desks and ensure that all windows are locked.
Teachers are responsible for keeping their desks, filing cabinets, and bookcases cleaned properly.
The custodial staff is not responsible for picking up after students – they will handle mud, dirt, dust, etc. Please discuss with students their responsibilities.
Supplies such as soap, paper towels, etc. will need to be conserved as much as possible. Please help us stretch a very small budget as far as we possibly can. In this effort, student use of supplies should be monitored closely.
If you have a custodial concern (no trash emptied, room not being cleaned), either report it to the office staff, or record it in the custodial log book in the office.
