The two off-campus residences, S4 and Il Santo, may be described as dormitory-style facilities located in the center of Florence. The residence halls are entire buildings that accommodate a total of about 330 NYU Florence students.
Both off-campus residence halls are newly renovated buildings located about a 10-15 minute walk from Santa Maria Novella Train Station.
Single and double rooms with en suite bathrooms are available.
Sheets, blankets, pillows, one bath mat per bathroom, one pillow, five hangers, and towels (one bath towel, one hand towel, one bidet towel) are supplied. Linens and towels are replaced weekly during the cleaning service. Students should bring or purchase an extra towel for travel and wash cloths, if desired. Those who choose to bring their own sheets should avoid bringing plain white sheets, as these may easily be confused with those provided by the cleaning company.
A/C is available in all rooms.
Each room includes a hairdryer, mini fridge, safe, and wi-fi.
Both Residence Halls have multiple common spaces at students' disposal:
Lounge areas.
Study spaces.
Cinema room, which must be reserved at the reception.
Communal kitchen: Students have personal lockers to store food and utensils. Students can also check in/out a full kitchen pack at the reception, to be used for meal preparation. Private fridges and communal freezers are available.
Laundry room: The cleaning machines work with an App. More information will be given upon arrival.
Gym: This space is unstaffed; students should be mindful while using the machines and tools.
Ground terrace.
All students living off campus must manage trash and recycling according to the guidelines posted in their residences and local regulations. Trash should be taken out daily by students. Recyclable items must be divided into separate bags for paper/cardboard, glass, plastic/aluminium, compost, and non-recyclable. Please follow the signs in your residence for appropriate recycling. Failure to dispose of trash or recycle properly may lead to fines and disciplinary action.
Students must use public transportation to travel between the NYU Florence campus and their living situations. Taxis are expensive but are the safest way to travel at night. Students should budget for these expenses and leave plenty of time for the commute.
Students living off campus may enroll in the on-campus meal plan by purchasing 25 or 50 meals directly from the on-campus cafeteria provider.
Wireless Internet access is available in both Off-campus Residences. Keep in mind that you might need an adapter that allows your plugs to fit into an Italian outlet. Check what voltage the AC adapter your devices accept. It should read as follows: “INPUT 110-240”. Please keep in mind that in Italy access may not be quite as efficient or consistent as Internet service to which students are accustomed.
For your security, we ask you to follow some basic guidelines. Do not leave valuables or cash lying around, and keep your door closed, and locked while sleeping. There is a safe in the Office of Student Life where you may keep small valuables. Students have access to items in the safe during regular office hours (Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM).
