NYU Florence is currently served by the 25 bus line and the 302A and 307A suburban lines, operated by Autolinee Toscane. The urban tickets cost 1.70 euros within the city limits (up to Pian di San Bartolo/ Pratolino, last stops of the two 25 lines). Beyond these stops, please note that you will need to purchase a suburban ticket. Note that the ticket needed to use the tram line is the same you use for taking the bus!
The 25 bus runs approximately every 20 minutes on weekdays. The 302A and 307A lines have different schedules according to the time of day and the day of the week. Please note: all the stops for the 25 as well as the 302A and the 307A lines are only on request, and, therefore, to get on the bus, you need to hail the driver, while to get off, you need to press the ‘stop’ button on the bus and you will see a confirmation message on the display board. Otherwise, you can inform the driver in advance.

€1,70 single bus/tram ride (90-minute validity from the moment you stamp it on the bus or you activate it on the TabNet or AT Bus app, or after you use your contactless card)
€3,00 onboard ticket (drivers sell the tickets but rarely have them, so don't rely on this)
€15,50 10-ride carnet
€38,70 monthly bus pass
A fine is a minimum of 50 euros. To avoid them, you should:
Always have a ticket or proof of purchase (SMS, printed ticket, or online version).
Always validate the ticket (except tickets purchased through SMS or contacless) as soon as you get on the bus.
If you are caught without a valid bus ticket, controllers will ask you to get off the bus and pay a fine immediately. Paying the fine in cash on the spot results in a lower amount but waives your right to appeal. If you believe the fine is unjust, do not pay right away—you have the option to file an appeal. If your appeal is accepted, you’ll only pay a €10 administrative fee; if it’s denied, you’ll be required to pay the full fine, which will be higher. Please note that inspectors may follow individuals who refuse to cooperate or show ID, and may call the police if necessary. Always cooperate with officials.
Bus schedules in Florence can be found on the official bus company website, as well as on the Moovit and Tabnet apps. You can also find approximate schedules posted at most bus stops. However, please note that schedules are not always reliable, so we recommend using an app with GPS tracking to check real-time bus locations and wait times, like Moovit.
Bus stops are marked with signs that say “Fermata”, along with the name of the stop (e.g., “Bolognese Di Montughi”) and the numbers of the buses that serve that stop. Most buses run until around midnight, though service becomes less frequent after 9:00 pm.
Bus tickets can be purchased at any newsstand or Tabacchi shop (look for a large white “T” on a blue background outside the store). The nearest tabacchi to campus is located at Via Bolognese 8. Tickets can also be purchased via mobile apps such as Tabnet. If you buy a mobile ticket, be sure to validate it before boarding, as poor signal on the bus may prevent proper validation and result in a fine.
In some cases, you may be able to purchase a ticket directly from the bus driver, but this is not guaranteed. Drivers may not carry change, so exact coins are required. The fact that you were unable to buy a ticket on board does not exempt you from being fined if you're found without a valid ticket. For this reason, we strongly recommend buying and validating your ticket before boarding.
A single-ride ticket is valid for 90 minutes from the time it is validated and can be used on any city bus or tram during that window. To validate your paper ticket, use the machines located near the front of the bus. If you're using contactless payment, validation is automatic. Tickets purchased in Florence are also valid for public transportation in other Tuscan cities, including Arezzo, Grosseto, Livorno, Lucca, Massa Carrara, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato, and Siena.
Ticket inspectors (often in plain clothes) regularly check passengers' tickets, especially on routes like bus #25. It is essential to have a validated ticket with you at all times. If you purchased your ticket via text message, be ready to show the SMS confirmation as proof.
To acquire a bus pass, new users must register an account on the AT Official Website and insert details such as your codice fiscale (Italian social security number), carta d’identità (Italian ID card), tessera sanitaria (Italian national health card), along with additional information to acquire a potential discount, such as that for students. Foreigners who are temporary residents of Florence will need to start the process by filling out a Foreign Citizens form to receive an Italian fiscal code.
After registration is complete, a monthly, seasonal, or yearly pass can be purchased. Since these are connected to the customer’s account, all that needs to be shown to ticket inspectors is your health card or codice fiscale card to verify that you have a pass.
NYU Florence students will need to show the QR Code generated through the webpage below as proof of monthly pass purchase.

With a contactless card, onboard: Keep in mind that, when getting on a bus that goes outside Florence (extra urbano, such as the 307A), you will have to tap twice on the contactless machine, once when getting on the bus to pay for your ticket, and a second time when getting off the bus. Otherwise, you will be charged for an extra urban ticket, which is more expensive.
