General Precondition 2 is met as follows:
As soon as a student enrolls in a Commission-approved educator or administrator preparation program at Mills College at Northeastern University, their academic advisor guides them to complete a predetermined set of required courses that meet the Commission's standards for their desired credential.
The academic advisor will provide the candidate with a recommended completion timeline for their program and monitor the candidate until program completion;
The candidate, their academic advisor, and the program director determine program withdrawal decisions. The academic advisor and program director will carefully assess and counsel the candidate prior to reaching the decision to withdraw;
Mills College at Northeastern University has the following criteria for dropping a candidate from the credentialing program:
a. The candidate does not meet the minimum grade point average of 3.0 to continue in the program;
b. The candidate does not pass the required coursework or fieldwork placement.
If the candidate opts to transfer to another state-approved program to complete the credentialing requirement(s), Mills College at Northeastern University will release the candidate’s academic transcript upon request. Program faculty and the Academic Coordinator & Credential Analyst will be available to answer questions and assist in a program transfer with minimal disruption.
In the event of college or program closure, the School of Education will continue to support credential students and ‘teach out’ until they complete their program of study per the agreed-upon teach out timeline provided to the candidate. New credential candidates will not be admitted to programs under closure circumstances. The Dean of the School of Education (or successor office), will oversee the continuing operation of the programs. Required courses will continue to be taught by qualified instructors. Student internships and student teacher placements will continue to be supported by the field supervisors. All performance assessments will be guided and supported by the program directors. Candidates will continue to have access to their college records through the Mills College at Northeastern University academic records department and to their credential file through the School of Education via the Academic Coordinator & Credential Analyst. If the plan to teach out is not possible, the Dean of School of Education or successor office) will ensure that the candidates are successfully admitted to nearby institutions with approved programs to complete the credential requirements.
The Mills College at Northeastern University School of Education established the following teach-out pathways for students in its credential programs during the 2021-2022 academic year:
Administrative Service Credential: University of San Francisco
Multiple and Single Subject Credentials: Saint Mary’s College of California
Early Childhood Special Education Credential: California State University, Sacramento; California State University, San Jose; and California State University, San Francisco
Program faculty notified enrolled students of their options to continue their credential requirements at institutions that offer equivalent CTC-approved programs.
