Across all programs, the School of Education uses multiple assessments to ensure that candidates are qualified for admission into our credential programs. To be eligible, applicants must have relevant experience in fields related to their desired program and the field of education, such as teaching, curriculum development, and community involvement. This experience must relate to clear activities and management capabilities that provide a foundation upon credential programs build professional qualifications. All applicants are interviewed by program faculty to gain insight into applicants’ personal and professional motivations and compatibility with the program's explicit goals of ant-racist, culturally and gender inclusive practice. The Basic Skills Requirement and Subject Matter Requirement are both admittance criteria for the Multiple and Single Subject Teacher Credential programs. Candidates with demonstrable potential as teachers may be admitted to the program for one term, pending completion of these criteria. Candidates who have yet to meet the Basic Skills and Subject Matter requirements must complete observational field placements with limited teaching responsibilities (Multiple & Single Subject Handbook, p. 22.).
