S2 Electives

What are S2 electives?

Electives are an integral part of our BGE (Broad General Education) and give pupils an opportunity to develop new skills and knowledge in a curricular area, or enhance their skills in an area where they are already strong in.

When do they take place?

Electives run throughout the year on a Thursday afternoon during periods 6+7.

Most pupils will get a chance to choose four different electives on S2. Most electives run on a termly basis except Sports Leadership which is a two term elective.

Who takes the electives?

Electives are offered by NI staff who have capacity on a Thursday afternoon to offer an elective. Alongside our own staff we are grateful to Active Schools for helping out.

The UHI North, West and Hebrides are unfortunately not offering any electives this year. This has left a big gap in the type of electives we can offer our pupils.

Choosing your elective

Please choose your elective carefully, ranking them in order of preference from 1 to 4.  As numbers are limited we cannot guarantee that everyone will get their 1st choice.

If you find after a couple of weeks that the elective is not what you had hoped for it will be very hard to switch your elective, as most electives will be full to capacity, but we will always try and accommodate changes where possible.
