What will I study?
In this course you will get to develop translation skills and the ability to understand, analyse and evaluate through studying Latin language and literature. You will appreciate how languages are interconnected, and understand the contribution of Roman civilisation to your own culture and that of others. You will develop your literacy skills by listening, talking, reading and writing in English, and reading in Latin.
The course has two compulsory units, plus an added value unit that assesses your practical skills.
Latin: Translating
In this unit you will:
study straightforward Latin texts
develop the language skills needed for translation
develop knowledge of vocabulary and rules of grammar.
Latin: Literary Appreciation
In this unit you will:
develop the language skills needed to understand, analyse and evaluate straightforward texts in Latin and translated into English
develop knowledge and understanding of literary techniques and aspects of Roman culture.
Added Value Unit: Latin Assignment
In this unit you will:
investigate a chosen topic by reading and selecting relevant information from texts in Latin and translation
present your findings orally or in writing, and respond to questions.
How will I be assessed?
Your work will be assessed by your teacher on an ongoing basis throughout the course. Items of work might include:
practical work – reading, speaking or listening to texts
written work – producing simple texts
class-based exams.
You must pass both units to gain the course qualification.

Each class has a Google Classroom - this where class notes, assignments, homework and further learning resources are shared with pupils.
Parents can be added to Google Classroom pages to see any upcoming homework or marked class work.
