Funded by Scottish Government and working in partnership with Western Isles Women’s Aid, Action for Children provide support to children, young people and their families who may have been affected by violence against women. This is done in an individual and group basis where children and young people are supported and encouraged to share their concerns and build up their confidence. There are several services that they offer here on the island:
Our early intervention substance support service works across Lewis and Harris with young people aged 9-18 years, who are identified as having been under the influence alcohol or a substance and/ or using substances or alcohol regularly.
Secondly, we work with children or young people who are affected by a family member, or someone close to them substance or alcohol use.
They focus support with families who are identified as being more vulnerable and therefore need support at the earliest stage to reduce inequalities to improve health and wellbeing outcomes. Support is targeted to families who are at higher risk of health and wellbeing harms at earliest stage. Practitioners focus on support for families who have key vulnerabilities which increase the risk of drug and alcohol related harms. Pre-birth to 18 years of age.
Support to children, young people and their families who may have been affected by violence against women. We work with young people aged 8 – 18 years. Through an individual and group basis we aim to support young people. We run group work in partnership with women's aid.
To provide early intervention and prevention support to pupils experiencing mild mental health and wellbeing related issues. Practitioners provide support to improve mental health and emotional wellbeing of young people through 1-2-1 support. Support is for those requiring early help to avoid the escalation to CAMHS or other specialists services.
