What will I study?
The Geography course aims to give pupils a knowledge and understanding of people, place and environment.
In S1 you will complete :
a unit on atlas and mapping skills using a range of maps. You will learn about continents, oceans, and physical landforms around the world. You will develop skills including using an atlas and reading latitude and longitude.
a unit on Australia which looks at topics such as climate and deserts, population, natural hazards and issues such as over-tourism. You will develop presentation and graph skills.
In S2 you will complete:
A unit on OS mapping Skills where you will how to interpret symbols, give compass directions, read grid references and scale on a map.
A unit on the physical and human geography of Nepal and Mt Everest including mapping, Plate tectonics and mountain formation, extreme tourism and the impacts of tourism. You will work further on map and graph skills.
Development unit which looks at the social and economic differences between developed and developing countries and ways that these differences can be reduced. Topics looked at include globalisation and Fast Fashion and Fair Trade. Skills will include researching and analysis of data.
In S3 you will complete:
Skills unit looking building on OS mapping, atlas skills, fieldwork and interpreting maps and graphs.
Weather skills unit looking at collecting data and understanding key processes.
Urban unit looking at zones in a city, issues with traffic and how zones are shown on a map.
Coast unit using maps and looking at coastal landforms like stacks and headlands and how they form.
Climate Change unit looking at causes, effects and solutions to global issues.
How will I be assessed?
End of unit assessments, report writing and projects collecting and processing data and analysing information.
