What will I study?
In this course you will get to develop your translation skills and the ability to understand, analyse and evaluate through studying Latin language and literature. You will appreciate how languages are interconnected, and understand the contribution of Roman civilisation to your own culture and that of others. You will develop your literacy skills by listening, talking, reading and writing in English, and reading in Latin.
The course comprises two areas of study.
Translating
You will:
study detailed Latin texts
develop the language skills needed for translating
develop knowledge and understanding of vocabulary, accidence and syntax.
Literary Appreciation
You will:
develop the language skills needed to understand, analyse and evaluate detailed texts in Latin and to translate into English
develop knowledge and understanding of literary techniques and aspects of Roman culture.
How will I be assessed?
Course Assessment
The course assessment has two components totalling 100 marks:
Component 1: question paper 1: Latin: Literary Appreciation – worth 60 marks
Component 2: question paper 2: Latin: Translating – worth 40 marks.
The question papers will be set and marked externally by the SQA.
The grade awarded is based on the total marks achieved across all course assessment components.
The course assessment is graded A-D.

Each class has a Google Classroom - this where class notes, assignments, homework and further learning resources are shared with pupils.
Parents can be added to Google Classroom pages to see any upcoming homework or marked class work.
