What is striking to you about this artist's self-portrait?
What do you think the artist is trying to portray?
How do you think you can adapt this work into your self-portrait?
What I See (from the painting):
A girl with a pearl earing dressed in a plain style looking to the front against a black background. (it is a realistic type of artwork)
What Do I Think The Artist Is Trying To Portray?
A girl's side profile (realistic) that is relatively not detailed, in a 3d format expressed through gradients of dark and light shades of colour representing light source(s) w/ shadows. I think the artist is portraying the artwork in such a way that it brings out the girl's beauty. The artist painted using smooth strokes of paint and used gradients to transit between different colours and shades instead of having sudden and blunt changes in colour throughout the painting. The artist made the artwork furthermore eye-pleasing using soft edges for the girl's facial features, making it a comfortable portrait of the girl to look at and thus enhancing her beauty in this art piece.
3.How Do I Want To Adapt This Style Into My Self-portrait?
My side profile can be drawn to look in front and not to the sides. I can try making my portrait look more of a 3d one through choices of colors/darker and lighter shades of colors.
