2 face drawing:
I felt like I drew the front-facing side really well, however I had some trouble trying to draw the side view as it seems unnatural
Comparison:
Compared my picture with the drawing. I liked the front facing and did quite well
Outline:
Outline and identifying the shading
Shading:
colouring in with marker, it started to look more like me but I still felt the shadows was inaccurate
skintone chart:
I don't see much of a difference between the cool and warm tones, will try to add more.
skintone chart:
expanded to more lighter colours and trying to match my skin tone. The cool tone still doesn't feel like it should
Painting:
Shadows could not be seen, only a single colour present.
Painting finish:
More different warm and cool tones could be seen, painting still seems unatural and weirder.

Title of Work: Self Portrait with Necklace of Thorns

I see a woman who looks like she is in a jungle with many animals and plants
The subjects are the woman, the animals (monkeys and cat)
Shapes, texture
In the foreground, there is a woman. In the middleground, there is a monkey and a cat. The backrgound is filled with leaves, with a few small insects there
The woman is positioned at the middle at a large size, being the main topic of the portrait. The thorns on her necks appears to be capturing her like a cage, showing that she is suffering and trapped.
The artist wanted to show the woman's suffering and resilience through the portrait
Through the main topic with a very heavy necklace of thorns, the Artist may be trying to show that the woman is held down and in pain due to the necklace of thorns, which may represent the people/society that placed a heavy expectation or hurt her.
The portrait managed to show the sufferings of the Artist, and even others, caused by people. The animals may represent resilience, showing her strong willed self to overcome her challenges.
The portrait used less bright colours ( no bright colours like pink, yellow), shoiwng a solemn feel. The necklace was positioned as though it was capturing and trapping her pure self, represented by the white blouse. Her stern face shown resilience,
It was to futher emphasise her feelings that she had felt/experienced.
Why did she choose the monkey and cat to represent her feelings?
How did she think colours and texture could influence feelings and why she used these colours to represent her feelings
The bird hung around the necklace. The bird may represent frida kahlo herself, and how she is trapped. Or it may represent how the bird (which is artists) has always been trapped by the thorns (society/people), and could never escape
The different textures of the leaves. To me, it does not add any feelings or represent anything,
I would replace the butterfly hair pins on her hair to cacoons. The white butterfly, with its wings, represent freedom and purity of Frida Kahlo. Replacing it with a cacoon will further represent her pure self which was trapped in the cacoon, and the struggles she face to get out of the cacoon (like a trapped cage) and face the world.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PRINTMAKING (SILKSCREEN PRINTING) AND PAINTING? WHICH DO YOU PREFER AND WHY?
My Reflections: I prefer painting. I like experimenting with colours and using paint to draw. I find silkscreen painting quite messy as the substance used had a weird texture and stained clothes. My silkscreen painting came out badly and the substance did melt a bit, forming uneven lines and some part could not be coloured in.
HOW WOULD I LIKE TO IMPROVE MY WORK IF I WERE DO MY SILKSCREEN OR PAINTING AGAIN? PLS SPECIFY ONE TYPE.
My Reflections: I would want to learn the shading and blending of the face. I did not know which part of the face should be shaded and which to be highlighted. Hence, I experimented with the colours and painted many layers on the face, causing it to be cakey.
