WONDER
(Develop Curiosity)
I see a field with many colors of tulips nicely arranged in many rows, trees which leaves seem to have shed, cottage houses in dull colours and a man on the field
I see a landscape which is very scenic and peaceful, giving a very panoramic scene of Van Gogh's homeland.
The elements are colours, fine lines, textures , space and tone.
Cottage houses, tulips, a man, clouds, and several trees which have shed their leaves
The subjects are closely arranged and the tulips are neatly arranged in different parts of the fields, seperated by colours of the tulips.
I think the artist wants to show many neat rows of different kinds of Tulips while you can see many shed trees in the background in contrast.
I think the artist want us to see the contrast in the work and it is also a painting of his homeland so he also wants us to get a clear and transparent photo of how his homeland was like. The artwork makes me feel brightened because of how the colours of the tulips are bright and brazent.
I think the colours definitely show a huge contrast of the foreground and the background as the colours in the foreground are bright while the ones in the background on the trees and cottage houses are dull and gloomy, even the clouds seem to be heavy.
I think the contrast brings to ask a mixed feeling when we see this piece of artwork but what I feel is that this really gives the artwork a unique way of designing with both dull and bright colours.
I think the artist emphasise the tulips through drawing it to occupy most of the space because the tulips seem to be in full bloom even though the trees in the background have no leaves
I am curious when is there a man in the middle of the bed of tulips and I am also curious when is there a contrast in the tulips and the trees which I am interested to find out about.
I wonder why Van Gogh wanted to include contrast in his artwork and why he used truncated brushstrokes in his painting. I think his artwork really stands out to me because of how the painting shows a vibrant panorama of his homeland and the contrast of the tulips and the trees.
I am unsure of the technique of truncated brushstrokes and Van Gogh early style of depicting landscape as shown in the photo.
I would like to keep everything as I think that it is really well fitted into the photo and each of it has its own personality and showing different emotions through each of them and that they all compliment each other well so all of them should be kept.
Double Faced Self-Portrait
I feel that this was a good attempt as I was able to show two halfs of the face facing in different directions. However, I feel that this looks unrealistic and could be improved as the nose is too sharp and the eyebrows is also in the wrong direction.
Contour Outline of Self-Portrait Photograph
I feel that I added too much shade to my face but I think that it is also good in hindsight as it can give more shades of different colors to my face.
Carbon Copy of Contour Outline
I think that this was a good attempt in tracing out and shading my drawing but I think that some parts of the carbon copy can be shaded darker for better shades.
Positive and Negative Design of Self Portrait
Overall, good attempt in shading but the shading on the hair definitely could have been better to show and better positive and negative design.
Skin tone chart to get the skin tone(1st attempt)
Good attempt but it seemed that the green was too out of place with the yellow so definitely could have added less blue as I was trying to get my skin colour instead.
Skin tone chart to get the skin tone(2nd attempt)
Completed chart looks detailed and shows a very precise and step-by-step change of colours and a good attempt in getting my skin tone
Completed Skin tone chart and skin tone
The colour that I got definitely was lighter than my skin tone but the colour seemed rather similar so I am quite satified with my work but I can make it slightly darker.
Self-portrait painting(1st attempt)
I feel that the colours were definitely not complimenting each other well as there is a clear seperation of two different shades of colours which could be improved.
Self-portrait painting(2nd attempt)
The colours was definitely not around the same for this as there is a clear difference of the outer layer and inner layer which can be improved by slowly adjusting the colours.
Self-portrait painting(3rd attempt)
Good attempt but the mouth does not have a clear seperation from the skin and the glasses and hair can have more fine lines so that it is more neat and tidy.
Self-portait painting (Last attempt)
The colour was too dark and different from my skintone. I should start off from light colours first instead of dark colours so it is easier to adjust later on.
Self portrait painting(Last attempt)
Good attempt in adding different shades and following the original photo where the left side should be lighter as the light was brighter and my face was also slightly red and healthy.
Self-portrait painting completed
Good gradient of colours on the face with well and neat lines but the background could definitely be more detailed with more gradient of colours instead of just two colours with the same shade.
Silkscreen printing
I feel that I could have made the shade on the hair darker as it seemed that there is some missing shade on the hair which was supposed to be shaded.
Silkscreen inking
Good attempt with clear and fine lines but I could have put less ink on the silkscreen
Silkscreen inking with yellow, black and yellow
I was attempting to have 3 different colours on my face and I think it was a well attempt as the colours compliment well with each other.
Silkscreen inking with different colours
I attempted to mix all of the 3 colours together to give a more unique mixture and gradient of colours and it is quite a good attempt.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PRINTMAKING (SILKSCREEN PRINTING) AND PAINTING? WHICH DO YOU PREFER AND WHY?
My Reflections: Printmaking is where you put paint on the top and use a scraper to colour the silkscreen by using the scraper to paint the silkscreen using specific colours while painting is using a brush to paint the painting using different colours that you have mixed. I prefer silkscreen printing as I feel that is is more unique and different. I have not tried silkscreen printing before and being able to try it out really gives me a different perspective to painting. Silkscreen painting is very easy to do if you have the materials and I personally had a lot of fun inking my silkscreen as it is very satisfying just using a scraper to paint my silkscreen!!! It definitely allows more creativity as I am able to use many different gradient of colours instead of just trying to paint my painting by following my picture which does not allow me to unleash my creativity. Being able to do silkscreen is definitely an eye-opener as well because it is really so amazing that you can use technology where you use light to print your picture and technology as well. I also prefer silkscreen because it is definitely more exciting as I am able to try something new which I have definitely not tried before. Silkscreen is also not time-consuming. Therefore, I prefer silkscreen printmaking.
HOW WOULD I LIKE TO IMPROVE MY WORK IF I WERE DO MY SILKSCREEN OR PAINTING AGAIN? PLS SPECIFY ONE TYPE.
My Reflections:
I want to start off with the lighter colours next time when I am painting so that it is easier to add other lighter colours before moving to darker colours and adjust the colours accordingly. I also think that I can add more shades of colours so that there will be more vibrancy in my painting and make it more realistic.
