April 10th, 2026
Hello Families,
It's hard to believe we are a week away from April break! When we arrive back from break we will be starting a new unit on opinion writing. We will be learning how to write opinions through a content unit on Plants. More details to come!
We are looking forward to our Artist and Residence, Abenaki Garden Mural Project next week. Thank you to Mrs. Aucter for organizing this event!
Please see classroom updates below.
***Water Bottles-
Keep sending water bottles!
It is so helpful to have water right in the classroom and to eliminate trips out in the hallway. Thank you!
Snacks
If your child gets a school snack it might be helpful to keep a backup snack in their backpack/cubby as some of the cereal choices are not always their favorite! Having a bar or something non-perishable in their backpacks will ensure they always have a snack. The Thursday snack is usually a homemade muffin and that is a fan favorite.
Learning Highlights
First Grade
We have been working on place value concepts, adding and subtracting groups of ten.
13+30
Students are learning to group the tens and add the extras:
10+30=40
40+3=43
Second grade continues to work with place value up to 1000, building and comparing 100's, 10's and 1's and writing in expanded form.
PHONICS:
Dolphins Group: This group is doing a review of syllable types: R controlled, magic e, open and closed, consonant le and vowel teams. They are working with words with 2 or more syllables and learning the process of syllabication to help read and spell multisyllabic words.
Sea Turtles: This group is working on suffix endings, es, s, ed and ing. We are working on spelling our base words then adding our suffix ending. After working with suffix endings, this group will move onto a syllable unit to wrap up the year!
Students are writing many stories with a focus on a beginning, middle, end and problem/ solution. Students are working on bringing their characters to life with action and feeling. We have been doing many inspiring read alouds that model realistic narrative. We will wrap this unit up by sharing our stories with our peers!
