Hello Families,
What a beautiful week! We continued to explore light during science and also had a special art class to create miniature characters for our creative writing. Next week we will create 3D settings for our stories to take place and work on writing our beginning, problem and solution. We reviewed class expectations each day as this warm weather can make it feel like the final days of school, which can make following expectations challenging! We still have a lot of learning in the next few weeks!
Learning Highlights from the Week
First Grade
We continued diving deep into place value and adding and subtracting using our knowledge of groups of tens.
i.e. Build 60 remove 20 or Build 50 add 40
Second Grade
We continue our work with adding and subtracting using place value concepts.
i.e. We have 100 pencils and 57 students, how many left over pencils will we have?
We continue to dig deep into comprehension skills and work on reading phonics features learned with fluency.
We worked on creating characters for our adventure stories and wrote a beginning that introduced our characters, the setting and character traits. Next week we will work on a problem and solution.
We are wrapping up our unit on sound and light and will begin a unit on the sun and stars.
