Hello Families,
We had another terrific week at school! We continued work on expectations and routines and also dove into our new literacy curriculum! We learned about cartographers and worked on mapping our hearts and our houses. Ask your child what is in their heart map! My heart map has a special place for all of your kiddos!
Have a lovely weekend!

Water Bottles
Please have your child bring a water bottle to school. Having a water bottle in the classroom allows students to take a drink whenever needed and eliminates time out of the classroom going down the hall to the water fountain. Thank you!
Snacks
If your child gets a school snack it might be helpful to keep a backup snack in their backpack/cubby as some of the cereal choices are not always their favorite! Having a bar or something non-perishable in their backpacks will ensure they always have a snack. The Thursday snack is usually a homemade muffin and that is a fan favorite.
Learning Highlights from the Week
First Grade
Math is off to a terrific start! We are learning about routines and expectations and how to take care of our math tools. We began counting "treasure" boxes and recording the number on our recording sheet. Students learned strategies to accurately count and how to represent their work like mathematicians.
Grade 2
Students in Grade 2 did a review of math skills and are learning expectations and routines.
We started a review of phonics skills and introduced new routines and procedures. Students learned how to follow directions and apply their learning in their word study notebook. We are building a sound wall as a class as we review each sound.
We are also doing many read a louds that are teaching us about mapping.
We are learning about mapping and are working on heart maps and maps of our homes. We are working on labeling our maps using neat and organized penmanship.
Classroom Expectations
We continued to learn about our class expectations. We read many books this week that support these skills. The first six weeks of school we spend a lot of time practicing and learning these expectations. If your child needs more practice after the first six weeks of school, I will set a goal with your child and send an email home letting you know what your child is working on and how you can support their goal. Classroom expectations allow for a calm, safe and healthy learning community.
