February 7th, 2026
Hello Families,
We have had a very busy couple of weeks! Snowmotion has been a blast and the Flynn show was spectacular! Students who had never been to the Flynn before said, "This place is like a palace!". It has been so wonderful to experience these opportunities together as a community.
All School Meeting:
We will be hosting the All School Meeting on Friday, February 13th at 8:00.
Students will lead a meeting for all classes in the school. Students will go over meeting expectations, lead a greeting, a mindful moment, teach about kindness and sing a song. All students choose a job that they felt comfortable with. Families are welcome to join us, the meeting starts at 8:00 in the multi-purpose room.
Please see below for details on academics and updates on the Animal Museum and Sharing.
Sharing
SHARING
Sharing has kicked off and it has been amazing! Students are practicing their speaker voice and generating thoughtful comments and questions. We had such a busy week with field trips that we are a little backed up on our share schedule. Some students did not get an opportunity to share last week and will be plugged in to the schedule this week!
African Savanna Museum
We are excited to share our learning on:
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 20th 8:00-9:00
Where:
The classroom
What to expect:
Museum style celebration, visit different animals and ask the author for some fun facts!
Come anytime between 8-9:00
Please note, based on our past experiences most families have come right at 8:00 and we have learned that our small classrooms cannot comfortably fit all of our families at once! In order to make this experience the most enjoyable, we will have smaller groups come through at that 8:00 time. Thank you for your understanding!
Learning Highlights
First Grade
We continued our measurement unit and used rulers to measure fish. We continued to find the difference between fish lengths and keepers.
Grade 2
Second grade is working with place value up to 1000, building and comparing 100's, 10's and 1's and writing in expanded form.
Literacy:
Sea Turtles Focus:
Vowel Teams and reading with fluency
Dolphins Focus:
Suffix endings and reading with Fluency
This week's literacy snapshot:
Fluency Pyramids and Rereading
Our current classroom goal is to read with greater fluency. We have been rereading paragrapahs and shorter books to increase our fluency. Words students had to sound out on the first read, become smoother and become a sight word by the 2nd or 3rd read. We will be starting a fluency home component after break to help strengthen this very important skill in our readers! More details to come!
Here is an example of a fluency Pyramid at an emerging reading level:
We have made covers and a table of contents for our research reports. Many students are doing an extra chapter on the life cycle! We are also very busy tracing, painting and stuffing our animals for the celebration. We can't wait to transform our rooms into the savanna!
We are excited to see everyone on February 20th!
If you cannot make it, I will be sure to take LOTS of pictures!
