Hello Families,
What a terrific week back from break! Students settled into routines and worked hard on their learning.
We kicked off our learning about perspective taking before break. We are learning that our classmates may have a different opinion about something or may have had a different experience when social conflict happens. We are learning how to share our perspectives, listen to the perspectives of our peers and be peaceful problem solvers.
Learning Highlights from the Week
First Grade
We began a new place value unit. Students are counting by 2, 5, and 10's through story problems.
Second Grade
We began a new unit on place value and have been working on solving addition and subtraction using equations rather than a number line. We will be working with numbers through 100 next week.
We continue to dig deep into comprehension skills and work on reading phonics features learned with fluency.
We worked on all parts of an opinion piece and worked on using linking words such also, next, in addition, finally. We are working on our final piece and will move onto creative narrative writing!
Before break we continued learning about vibrations. We experimented with tuning forks and bowls of water...the outcome was a surprise to all! We will wrap this unit up next week with a study on light and dive into the sun and sky the following week.
