Hello Families,
We had another week of sharing and students did such a beautiful job of speaking in front of their peers. Many students got to use the document camera to show their items and stand at my teacher station, they took the job very seriously and even used some of my teacher language to get kids attention! " Waiting for arrow eyes and ears tuned in." I LOVE it! We have been busy learning how to take notes this week for our research projects. I am amazed at the learning that is happening, everyone has been working so hard. We will be inviting families in to celebrate our learning, more details and a date to come!
Learning Highlights from the Week
First Grade
This week we focused on learning new partner games for independent work time and postponed our measuring unit. We will begin that next week.
Second Grade
Students learned new games for independent learning time. They also learned about coins and adding and subtracting within the dollar. They spent their dollar at the classroom shop focusing on how many items they could buy and how much money they would have left over.
Students are working on reading non-fiction text with a focus on soft g and c, r controlled vowels, glued sounds such ild, old and ind and the digraph ch.
Students listened to nonfiction text about a sloth and learned how to take notes using a graphic organizer. We then took those notes and learned how to turn them into sentences. Next week we will learn to take a fact and write a twin sentence (elaboration). We will also pick our animals to research next week! Everyone is SO excited!
Friendship Celebration!
We will be celebrating friendship on Valentine's Day! If your child wants to share valentines with their peers, we ask that they bring them for the whole class. Please no food attached to the valentines. If your child decides to share Valentine cards, a list of names is in my email.
