Hello Families,
Students enjoyed another snowy week. They are also really enjoying our nonfiction writing unit. They have grown SO much as writers! They got out and cross country skied in PE and worked on that growth mindset when they fell! We began our share this week and students are doing an excellent job of presenting and asking questions or giving a compliment.
Learning Highlights from the Week
First Grade
First graders worked on adding 3 groups of numbers together and combinations of 10.
Second Grade
Students worked on subtraction story problems using strategies such as a number line or using equations.
Students are working on magic e, syllable types and digraphs. As a class, we are also working on spelling heart words correctly and creating a heart word wall to use as a resource.
We have combined our nonfiction writing unit with our science unit on special animal features. We have kicked off our unit with students learning the difference between fact and opinion, how to write facts and a topic sentence. Once we have built the skills to be informative writers, students will study their own animal and its special feature.
