Report Cards went home in everyone's home folders on Friday. Please let me know if you have any questions.
The students did a fantastic job in their hip-hop residency last week. Trying something new can feel uncomfortable, they used a "growth" mindset and persevered even though for some it was out of their comfort zone. I was SO proud of all of them.
Learning Highlights from the Week
First Grade
First graders continued to work on finding different combinations of numbers ( 3+3=6, 2+4=6, 1+5)
Second Grade
Students continued to focus on finding a missing addend in a story problem using a number line. See pic above!
We read with stuffed animals for Funday Friday! We also practiced rereading our "have to" books to work on building fluency. Students read independently and with a reading buddy to help practice this important skill.
Our groups this week focused on ed, magic e and glued sounds such as ild, old, ost.
Students did word chains, mapped words in Elkonin boxes and played roll and read or write.
We continue to work on narrative writing and will finish this unit this week.
We practiced our growth mindset and hip-hopped our way through the week! Students did a remarkable job.

A Note about Report Cards
It got brought up in one of our classroom meetings that it is "bad" to get a 1, 2 or an I on the report card. We had a class talk about what those scores really mean. Report cards are a way to share information. When a student has a 1, 2, or an " I " in an area, that is an opportunity to set goals and grow. Developmentally everyone learns at different rates and celebrating learning and hard work is important!
