Group Officer
The Chief Officer will appoint all members of the CFA as group officer or deputy group. As a group officer you have a period of 3 years before you progress into your next rank.
Pay scale: $149 857
Job Longevity:
Qualifications: You will need to do a recruit training program with your state or territory fire authority as well as continued on the job training.
Duties:
· As required, command and deploy personnel and equipment, enact tactics and strategies, and liaise with other agencies during operations at the request of the Incident Controller. This includes roles of Task Force Leader and Out of Area Commander.
· Enhance incident management and ICS effectiveness where appropriate, and participate as an incident management team member.
· Provide leadership and direction within the RFS.
· Encourage and foster a positive image of the RFS.
· Undertake liaison with other agencies within the ACT and interstate to foster better working relationships.
· Promote the safety and welfare of the RFS.
· Provide mentoring to brigades and members.
· Assist in the effective management of RFS brigades and personnel.
· Participate as a member of the Captains meeting and attend other meetings as required.

Probationary period:
A probationary period applies, commencing from the beginning of the FRV Recruit Course.
Annual leave:
Firefighters receive nine weeks' rostered annual leave per year. This annual leave is taken in two blocks per year, and is rostered according to the shift and location to which you are based.
Public holidays:
Firefighters are rostered to work throughout the year, including public holidays.
Superannuation:
Firefighters are required to join the Emergency Service Superannuation Scheme (ESSS). This is a defined-benefit superannuation fund to which you contribute according to the rate you nominate on your superannuation form.
Parental Leave:
After 12 months' continuous service, employees, in conjunction with the employees' partners, are entitled to paid and unpaid parental leave on a shared basis, in relation to the birth or adoption of their child.

1st Lieutenant.
This is a senior position and it is referred that an applicant has previously held an officers position.
Role:
The role of the 1st Lieutenants is a crucial one. Along with the captain, the 1st lieutenant is responsible for the discipline of the brigade. The 1st lieutenant is primarily responsible for the operations Portfolio that includes the areas of Risk Management, Burning off, pre-planning and Brigade standing orders. The 1st Lieutenant works closely with the 6th Lieutenants in a mentoring role. Attends various brigade, community, regional committees and meetings. The role includes an amount of administration work to be performed and numerous phone calls.

6th Lieutenant
The 6th Lieutenant is designed to be a training position with support by senior officers in order to develop leadership skills. The support will be in portfolio management and running of the brigade.
The primary aspect of this role is to co-ordinate numerous events held within the community in a safe manner. By engaging and strengthen the community through fire prevention activities. The role includes a high amount of administration work that needs to be performed as well as phone calls and travelling within the local area. Workers are required to have a working with children’s check.
This is a training position, so nominees should not have served as a officer of the Werribee fire brigade.
