Ryco Constructions makes high pressure hoses and fittings that are used in the following industries:

Mining, underground, construction, agriculture and forestry.

Ryco was a 100% owned Australian company mainly servicing Australian. Last year taken over by Manuli (Italian company based in Milan) now a multinational cooperation.

Since 1946, The business has been in operation for 75 years.

Just in Ryco hydraulics Derrimut they have over 75 employees. All workers are full time.

Ryco Constructions ensures the safety of their staff by implementing the following:

-          Communication:  Communication can be anything, most of the time an email or text could go out to workers stating that there is a new hazard within the workplace and for employees to stay away from it.

 

-          Toolbox meetings: Toolbox meetings mostly happen at the beginning of a working shift; this is when all employees are gathered around the employer or whoever may be in charge (Manager). The risk or hazard will then be discussed informing all employees on how to keep safe when working.

 

-          Signs: Visible reflective Signs are put up around the workplace indicating risks or hazards that may get in the way of an employee’s task so that they know how to go about getting it completed.

  

-          Chains: To stop people walking in forklift zones

 

-          Compulsory Hi vis and safety shoes if on warehouse floor.

Ryco Constructions has an OHS team that consists of two health and safety officers – one in the warehouse and one in the office but they say everyone is a health and safety officer at work. The team communicates OHS information to employees by setting up Computer courses, sign ups around the warehouse, Toolbox meetings and Report issues to manager if you want any changes.

All OHS concerns fall under the OHS Act 2004. OHS incidents within in the Ryco constructions workplace are reported Depending on the level of the incident. At Ryco constructions employees need to first see a manager, then are given an incident book or report form that they will sign, and date and any witnesses can sign and date also. Work safe comes out and investigates the incident and asks lots of questions. Work safe makes recommendations and improvements and gives Ryco a certain amount of time to fix before they come back.

Qualifications

Formal qualifications are not usually required to work as a Commercial Cleaner. Some do though have a cert II or III in cleaning operations.

Certificate II or III in cleaning operations.

Daily Duties

-          Vacuuming carpets, curtains and upholstered furniture

-          Cleaning, dusting and polishing furniture, fixtures and fittings

-          Removing rubbish and recyclable material, and emptying containers, bins and trays

-          Stripping wax from floors, re-waxing and polishing floors

-          Cleaning and disinfecting laundry and bathroom fixtures, replenishing supplies and reporting defective plumbing fixtures

-          Operating industrial vacuum cleaners to clean floors, work areas and machines

-          Removing dust and dirt from ceilings, walls, overhead pipes and fixtures

-          Applying acids and solvents to surfaces to remove stains and dirt

-          Removing lint, dust, soot, oil, grease, sludge and other residues from machines, hulls and holds of ships, and interiors and exteriors of furnaces, boilers and tanks

-          May clean exteriors of buildings by sandblasting and applying solvents

 

PayScale:

$24.00 an hour and the average salary being $47,450 per year.

Qualifications: A formal qualification in a related field (like logistics, warehousing, distribution) is needed to work as a Supply and Distribution Manager. Vocational Education and Training (VET) and university are both common study pathways.
