OHS
At MetroCool they follow The Occupational health and safety act 2004 (OHS act) and work with WorkSafe Victoria to ensure the safety of employees and clients.
Communication
MetroCool had a strict OHS policy and everyone communicates in a way where safety is number, and the idea is who cares if the job gets pushed back because the safety of the employees is the number one priority. The occupational health and safety act 2004 states that employers have specific duties and obligations they need to comply with which includes communicating OHS matters to employees in the appropriate language.
The methods MetroCool use to communicate OHS information include but are not limited to:
Site Safety Sheets:
MetroCool employees fill out an OHS sheet before entering every sight to ensure their safety they are also informed through other co-workers over the years of what is safe and what isn’t and if the job can’t be completed then it can be rescheduled when we have the tools to ensure safety such as cranes or scissor lifts.
Risk Assessments
Metrocool’s rust assessments are really affecting at making the job a lot safer as they allow the team to know what hazards are around as well as allow the team to work find different solutions to lower or even eliminate the risk
We know that the risk assessment are effective because with the information about where the hazards are you can try to avoid them and work around them completely eliminating the risk for example a roof being to high and the longest ladder can’t reach, we can eliminate the risk of going up a steep ladder that barely reaches and get in a scissor lift or crane if possible.
MetroCool also communicate OHS via email if something is concerning the manager OHS to ensure the safety of everyone in the workplace. The manager communicates to the employee what they can do to be more safe and strategies to help them do that.
Meetings
At MetroCool if something in the workplace doesn't feel safe the manager can have a meeting with his employees and discuss what they can do to make the workplace feel more safe.
Appropriate training
At MetroCool you are provided the appropriate training in the workplace so you know how to keep yourself and others safe and you know what to do in the case of a emergency.
OHS Roles and Responsibilities
